Evaluating Health Information on the Web

Health On the Net (HON) Foundation provides information about the quality of health information on the Internet. They have developed the HON Code of Conduct for health and medical web sites and they offer an interactive Site Checker questionnaire to evaluate the credibility of web sites. You can also type in a web site address and search their database for a rating based on the HON Code.

Web Sites, Mailing Lists & Discussion Groups for Caregivers

Association of Cancer Online Resources offers support and answers about cancer. They offer access to numerous cancer-related web sites and electronic mailing lists, including a few groups just for caregivers.

American Cancer Society Cancer Survivors Network provides a forum for people whose lives have been influenced by cancer. It is a site for caregivers, patients, and survivors. There is a discussion group just for caregivers, as well as a general mailing list.

Caregiver.com a magazine web site that features a weekly email newsletter, chat rooms, and discussion boards.

Caring.com, founded in 2007, is a web site to help family members caring for a parent or other loved one better handle in-home care, choose products to help with daily living, and make sound financial and legal decisions.

Share the Care™ is a web site that helps both caregivers and non-caregivers organize a group to help care for someone who is seriously ill. The site allows you to share your story and advice, find resources, and set up a group of your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances to help care for the patient.

Lotsa Helping Hands is a web site that helps caregivers create a community and provides a private group calendar designed for organizing helpers. It also provides a place to keep this circle or people informned with status updates, photos and message boards.
