But however easy it is for you to do what needs to be done, being a caregiver for a loved one adds a whole new layer to the challenge: the heartfelt need to do it right. Even for health care professionals who are confident in their skills, when it comes to a family member or friend, the weight is heavier. You want to do it right because it is important; because there are real stakes involved; because he or she needs you; and because it will make a difference in the quality, if not the quantity, of her or his life.
